Just Before I Go Movie Review By MDbReviews

Stephen Holden | New York Times
Lurches along a wobbly line between salacious comic nastiness and nauseating sentimentality.

Joe Neumaier | New York Daily News
Courteney Cox's misbegotten project is a comedy-drama that, to Cox's credit, doesn't feel at all like a TV sitcom. The former "Friends" star clearly wanted something special, but sadly the result is ... this.

Daniel Eagan | Film Journal International
Cox must have seen something in this screenplay that encouraged her to film it, but whatever that critical element was, it's not apparent in the finished product.

Kyle Smith | New York Post
Courteney Cox's directorial debut "Just Before I Go" is a "Garden State" retread in which filthy jokes gradually cede ground to sentimental slush.

Frank Scheck | Hollywood Reporter
A serious misfire.

Casey Cipriani | Movie Mezzanine
Fails at finding a balance between its crass jokes and serious subject matter.

Steve Howey, as a stoner-sage gay Hawaiian personal trainer, almost makes this worth watching all by himself.

Drew Hunt | Slant Magazine
Commingling industry shoptalk with introspective insights and wrangling testimonials, the film casts an incredibly wide net, but doesn't reveal much of anything.

Jordan Riefe | Hollywood Reporter
What might have turned out to be a movie about comedy only for comedians is instead a funny and engaging look at the most twisted and naked branch of the entertainment world.

Geoff Berkshire | Variety
Whatever it might take to get these admittedly very funny people to truly bare their souls, Pollak doesn't appear to have found it.

After the Ball Movie Review By MDbReviews

Chris Knight | National Post
I mean, give writers Jason Sherman and Kate Melville points for finding a way to shoehorn the Cinderella lost-slipper gag into the screenplay. But then take those points away for the very same reason.
Randall King | Winnipeg Free Press
Doubleday is a game gamine, and as the wicked stepsisters Hopkins and Krill manage to steal some scenes and win some laughs. Certainly, they help compensate for the film's witty/helpful/catty gay characters.
Nathalie Atkinson  | Globe and Mail
Certainly, the production values echo those of high-end made-for-TV fare, but the cast and amusing script more than make up for what the movie lacks in gloss.
Linda Barnard  | Toronto Star
It's pretty much a one-joke effort that wants to be The Devil Wears Prada but plays more like a middling episode of a TV sitcom.

Adult Beginners (2015) Movie Review: A young, hipster entrepreneur (Nick Kroll) crashes and burns on the eve of his company’s big launch. With his entire life in disarray, he leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged pregnant sister (Rose Byrne), brother-in-law (Bobby Cannavale) and three year-old nephew in the suburbs — only to become their manny. Faced with real responsibility, he may finally have to grow up — but not without some bad behavior first.

Adult Beginners Movie Review By MDBReviews

Harvey S. Karten | Compuserve
Warm, believable performances by this ensemble.

Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat | Spirituality and Practice
A wonderfully cast dramedy about brothers and sisters, growing up, and taking responsibility.

John Gholson  | Movies.com
Adult Beginners feels more like a baby-step in figuring out how [Nick] Kroll will transition to film star, but the potential is certainly there.

Michael Roffman  |  Consequence of Sound
Every arc and every twist is predictable from the get-go and the stakes are pretty low given the circumstances. But, there's something truly cozy about this picture. It's comfort food.

Matt Donato  | We Got This Covered
Adult Beginners benefits from a strong cast that showcases Nick Kroll's ability to blend cynicism and drama, despite working with a story that only offers a few new insights.

David Nusair  | Reel Film Reviews
An affable (for the most part) little comedy...

Justin Chang  | Variety
Rose Byrne and Nick Kroll play a sibling duo navigating their shared and respective crises in this warmly appealing dramedy.

Nikola Grozdanovic | The Playlist
It's not perfect, but as far as feature debuts go, there's very little you can fault "Adult Beginners" for. Slightly pedantic and maudlin at times, with telegraphed metaphors and rushed pacing, it's still hard to call any of these hiccups major flaws.

Reviews By Critics For 'The Squeeze' (2015)

Frank Lovece  | Film Journal International
Worthy addition to the annals of golf movies and a decent gambling-caper film, marred by a subpar final act.

Odie Henderson | RogerEbert.com
Here's a movie that would benefit from being broken up by late-night television commercials.

Robert Abele | Los Angeles Times
Between plot and character, there are definitely 18 holes in "The Squeeze."

Frank Swietek | One Guy's Opinion
Won't efface memories of the best caper pictures. Golfers, however, may well find it a pleasant diversion. At least it shouldn't tee them off.

Josh Kupecki | Austin Chronicle
A third act twist renders everything null and void and seriously strains anything mildly resembling reality.

The Squeeze Movie Review By MDBReviews

“The Squeeze” is a an old fashioned tale of gamblers, golfers, the good girl next door and the temptations of the easy life.

the allurements of the simple life. It's so dated that you may think, for 60 minutes or more, that its a religious dramedy. At that point the irreverence is dialed up, the sexuality shows itself, the conning steps middle of everyone's attention and the risk of viciousness weaving machines. An ethical quality story, yes. Not a religious one.

Yet the plot and characters truly do make you think about whether the author chief has encountered this present reality, and not simply the world as seen in "The Sting" or "Tin Cup" or "The Flim-Flam Man."

We meet Augie  as he and friends frolic through the small town they live in, playing a spirited game of early morning “cross country golf.” That’s one ball, one club, sprinting from a fixed spot in town to a finish at a hole on a local course - no holds barred.

Augie can do most anything with a golf club. Natalie "Jillian Murray" is really great at crosscountry golf, as well, so long as she can simply wear a games bra  to divert the young boys.Augie goes ahead to win a nearby beginner competition later that day, because of "diligent work, faith in the Almighty and stunning ability," he says. That gets the consideration of a trickster who passes by the name "Stream Boat."

Cute. Corny, but cute. Christopher MacDonald makes what he can of this walking anachronism, paired up with his sidekick, “The Bank” (Katherine LaNasa).
The kid is just the ticket for a few high stakes golf hustles River Boat has in mind.
Natalie isn’t impressed, but Augie needs money and before she can stop him, he “signs a deal with the devil.” And before she knows it, they’re off to Vegas.

"I've never been to Vegas."
"You've never been to Hell, either!"
Since we've seen the hawker light-fingering a congregation gathering plate, we've been set up for a light joke/ethical quality story. At the same time author chief Terry Jastrow never takes a few to get back some composure on tone. "Press" is never sufficiently entertaining, MacDonald never entirely cuts free, never at any point charms us in the way of the fantastic nonsense man.

The fun guaranteed by a "Screamin' Jesus" high stakes golf match is a guarantee unkept. Too minimal great will has been developed before The Heavy, Jimmy Diamonds shows up and "The Big Match" sets up.
And the ending is such a far-fetched fiasco that you wonder why the veterans in the cast didn’t warn the director away from it.

Reviews By Critics For 'The Road Within' (2015)

Katie Walsh | Los Angeles Times
"The Road Within" suffers from midfilm wandering and a hasty ending, but the message of self-acceptance rings true and clear.

Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat | Spirituality and Practice
A quest drama that fizzles out quickly.

Brian Orndorf | Blu-ray.com
Competently acted, offering moments of behavioral clarity that are truly something to see, but it's not a complete depiction of need, frequently resorting to distraction instead of tackling problems head-on.

Graham Fuller | New York Daily News
Riveting, full-blooded performances from the young leads and a tough-love ending raise it above what you may expect.

The Road Within Movie Review By MDBReviews

It seems like the ideal setup for a fabulous weak joke: A kid with Tourette's, an anorexic young lady, and a fanatical habitual flawless monstrosity take an auto and head for the shoreline. Had author chief Gren Wells demonstrated simply a touch more contemptuousness or brave or inventiveness, The Road Within could have given a whopper of a punchline.

But this is, of course, a movie about affliction, and it ultimately succumbs to the bland, sentimental uplift we've come to expect from such outings. After his mother dies, Vincent  is installed at a mental institution by his cold, career-obsessed father.

It's The Odd Couple meets Rain Man meets Benny & Joon, as Marie and Vincent strike up a provisional sentiment, lose tolerance with Alex, and afterward kindly attempt to bring Alex out of his phobic shell. Wells' couple of endeavors at stun esteem - in independent, profane fits, Vincent calls his cleric a pedophile and Alex a progression of racial slurs - are wan and constrained. None of the characters are fleshed sufficiently out to ingest or even delight. What's more, if this is the last film wherein background noise out the sound amid a beatdown scene, we'll be in an ideal situation for.

Closer to the Moon (2015) Movie Review: A Romanian police officer teams up with a small crew of old friends from the World War II Jewish Resistance to pull off a heist by convincing everyone at the scene of the crime that they are only filming a movie.

 IMDB : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2017486/

Closer to the Moon Movie Review By MDBReviews

At the point when Max Rosenthal .first pitches his four long-lasting comrades on holding up a protected auto in 1959 Bucharest, Alice ., his accessory to-be and mother of his child, thoughtfully comments in voiceover that he's the stand out considering this thought important. That supposition generally as suitably applies to Closer to the Moon's author executive, Nae Caranfil, who strangely swears off the bounteous elegiac parts of his film's real material for a tone approaching the chipper. In spite of the fact that the film is in view of the genuine story of the Ioanid Gang, Jewish erudite people who executed a challenging bank heist inside socialist Romania and were compelled to film a narrative reproducing their theft, Caranfil changes the names of those included, obviously to secure the effectively found-blameworthy, and recounts the story from the perspective of an altogether made-up character, wide-looked at Virgil.

Virgil, an aspiring filmmaker, sees the actual heist in progress, fooled like everyone else into believing—in an emblematic touch—that it's merely a movie shoot. Film possesses the power to influence the masses, which is precisely why the Romanian government forced the real-life players to reenact their nefarious deed, a means of engendering anti-Semitic propaganda by implying the thieves' intended to fund lavish lifestyles. While the genuine motivation for the gang's heist has forever been open to speculation, Closer to the Moon posits that these high-ranking Romanians grew so disillusioned with the autocratic socialist regime that they sought to strike a symbolic blow. It's an intriguing hypothesis, yet one for which Caranfil provides scant evidence.

Though the filmmaker recounts this story through the prism of the documentary's production, he resorts to conspicuous sentimentality, turning the movie set into a light-hearted fairy tale where the director is a "comic" drunk and the prisoners wind up calling the shots. Worse, the government agent (Anton Lesser) on set claims not to even know the robbers' motives, contradicting the real-life recreation's considerable agitprop.

Caranfil isn't so much unable as unwilling to pull back the front of the Potemkin paradise which has apparently caused these characters to lash out, providing no sense of the injustice under which they claim to toil, and offering virtually no insight into the gang's previous lives as supposedly heroic agents of resistance. As such, their presumed gallows humor comes across like careless indifference, marking them less as "Romanian Robin Hoods" than frivolous nihilists who would rather pass on than lead lives of ennui. Given an opportunity to reclaim the gang's narrative, Caranfil disappointingly declines, opting for sugary Hollywood confection. All these years later, once again, they die in vain.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 Movie Review By MDBReviews

Christopher Lawrence | Las Vegas Review-Journal
During Blart's awkward convention speech, a fellow security guard is so inspired, she yells out, "You go Paul Blart!" Yes, Paul Blart. You go. And take everybody involved with this mess with you.

Dave White | Movies.com
Kevin James and Nick Bakay are credited as screenwriters, but that's only because "Taking Naps" and "I Went Out To Get A Sandwich" are not Writer's Guild credits yet.

Alonso Duralde | TheWrap
A movie whose chuckles (six, I counted) are outnumbered by helicopter shots of the Wynn resort in Las Vegas.

Andy Webster | New York Times
You won't find much offensive in Kevin James's slick, innocuous vehicle Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. You won't find much prompting an emotional reaction in general, so familiar are the jokes and situations.

Nathan Rabin | The Dissolve
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 takes a page from the Think Like A Man Too playbook by moving its sequel to Las Vegas, and a page from seemingly every other bad sequel by essentially remaking the original.

Chris Knight | National Post
The plot is full of gaps in logic, motivation, physics and chemistry. Characters show up and vanish again as randomly as the targets in a game of Whac-a-Mole.

Peter Howell | Toronto Star
Caddyshack 2. Exorcist 2. Speed 2. To this small sample of the ever-expanding list of wretched movie sequels, add Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, a gobsmackingly witless excuse for entertainment.

Josh Lasser | IGN Movies
The proceedings are at their best when focusing on Blart's relationship with his daughter, but sadly that human element is forced to take a backseat to Blart's stopping a heist.

Kevin P. Sullivan | Entertainment Weekly
Far from the worst movie that you'll ever see, but you might leave wondering why you, the people on the screen, or anyone else in the theater even bothered.

Sandy Schaefer | ScreenRant
Die-hard Kevin James fans will get additional mileage from it, but Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is a pretty easy pass for everyone else.

Bruce Kirkland | Jam! Movies
It is listless, boring and as flat to the floor as Paul Blart when he slams down in a coma or gets knocked down by a villain, a vehicle or a horse's hind hoof.

Josh Bell | Las Vegas Weekly
Like the first movie, Mall Cop 2 suffers from indifferent plotting and apathetic jokes that often don't appear to have punchlines.

Bill Gibron | Film Racket
Nothing here is remotely salvageable

Joe Neumaier  | New York Daily News
The cinematic equivalent of biting into an old brown banana.

Christy Lemire | RogerEbert.com
Truly, there is not a single redeeming moment in director Andy Fickman's film. A general flatness and lethargy permeates these reheated proceedings.

Nobody was expecting much from Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, but did it have to be this unimaginative and lifeless?

Even with six years of preparation, the sequel feels slapdash, too reliant on James to bring the funny, and he's clearly struggling throughout this awkward return engagement.

In the Courtyard (2015) Critic Review: Antoine is too depressed to go on playing in his rock band. After wandering in the streets, he decides to seek an occupation. Unskilled as he is, he is lucky to be hired as the caretaker of an old Paris apartment building. He soon proves good at his job, even if he performs it a little eccentrically, and everybody grows fond of him. Antoine also develops a particular friendship with Mathilde, a recently retired woman who lives in the block and whose mental balance is deteriorating...

In the Courtyard Movie Review By MDBReviews

The harrowed are Antoine and Mathilde, and their science gives the element that powers Salvadori's eccentric representation. Antoine is an artist who no more takes delight in music; a profoundly discouraged sleep deprived person, he needs a change. He winds up filling in as a janitor in the loft building claimed by Mathilde and her spouse, Serge, and his misinformed, hapless endeavors to carry out his employment give the premise to a great part of the story.

Weathered down by life, Antoine is too despondent to enforce the complex's rules: He's soon smoking crack with one of the tenants and allowing a homeless man, Lev , to live there illegally. Salvadori's refusal to judge Antoine lends a detached, almost comical air to the proceedings, building to a hilarious sequence where a fastidious architect tenant's model building is eaten by Lev's mutt.

The narrative turns with Mathilde's own mental issues: After a crack appears in her wall, she begins to suspect the foundation's stability may be in danger, and mounts an investigation into the structure's integrity that begins to erode her mental health. As her sanity slips and her marriage strains, the broken Antoine provides emotional support for the increasingly harried Mathilde. It's in the portrait of these compromised individuals' relationship that the film finds its emotional heft.
